Good Value for the Price, December 2, 2009 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Tamron 70-300mm Di LD Macro Zoom Lens with Built In Motor + 62mm UV Filter + Accessory Kit for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics) For the price this is not a bad lens. I bought this to use on a Nikon D40 and found it to work very well in good light and it will auto focus as fast as the 55-200 Nikon kit lens. There are a few drawbacks, first it will search for focus in poor light, second under the right lighting and aperture you will get purple fringing at longer focal lengths. After I upgraded to the Nikon D90 the purple fringing or CA more or less went away, as it is taken care of in camera. The lens is a bit soft in lower light, but is generally excellent in good lighting. There is no hard infinity stop, which to me is a drawback. I use manual focus quite a bit for selective depth of field and would really like a hard infinity stop. Camera shake can be a problem at longer focal lengths, but that is normal for any long tele.

Great lens for the occasional shooter of wildlife or well-lit sporting events. On the short end it can even be used as a decent portrait lens, especially in natural outdoor lighting.
